163. 164. 165. And so We have placed in every society the most wicked to conspire in it. Yet they plot only against themselves, but they fail to perceive it. قَالَ. But if only you could see when they will be detained before their Lord! He will ask ˹them˺, “Is this ˹Hereafter˺ not the truth?”. They will cry, “Absolutely, by our Lord!”. He will say, “Then taste the punishment for your disbelief.”. But if only you could see when they will be detained before their Lord! Explaining this verse, Hasan al-Basri (رح) said: ` Alim is a person who fears Allah in private and in public, and likes what Allah likes him to do, and hates what is detestable in the sight of Allah. Memorizing many ahadith (or, talking a lot) is no 'Um (knowledge). Instead, (real) knowledge comes when one has the awe and fear of Allah with it. But if you must turn them down ˹because you lack the means to give˺—while hoping to receive your Lord’s bounty—then ˹at least˺ give them a kind word. .
